Introduction to Tibetan Rugs
Doris Leslie Blau, LLC in New York City introduced its first high-end Tibetan rug collection in 2001. The objective was to create a range of rugs with the timeless quality and craftsmanship of antique rugs but with a flexibile, creative and innovative approach with regard to design theme, sizing and color palette. Our Tibetan carpets are designed to satisfy the most sophisticated members of the design industry. Most of the patterns and colors in our Tibetan rugs are avant-garde, chosen with a vision of the future of interiors.
Tibetan rugs now woven in Nepal are direct descendants of the pile rug weaving tradition. Tibetan carpets at Doris Leslie Blau offer an array of exclusive yarns, colors and techniques.
Tibetan carpets begin by hand dyeing wool and silk yarns and combining the two fibers along with both loop and cut piles.
Doris Leslie Blau offers exclusive designs from some of America's leading designers and architects. Our custom Tibetan rug design inspirations are all meant to hold up to the integrity of our 45 year old antique carpet name.
In 2002 and 2009 we invited over 40 top designers and architects to create rug designs which has added individuality and exclusivity to our collections. For a large percentage of these, it was appropriate to have them hand-knotted in Tibet, where we use some of the most adept and skillful weavers known anywhere.
We have a state of the art web site where you can browse high quality images of all of our custom rug collections. Please also visit us in our New York City showroom where our experts will help you find the perfect custom Tibetan rug for your design project.
